SEO for Growing Companies: A 90-Day Framework

By Diligent Marketing Solutions This month

Why SEO Feels Like a Bet

Ask most business owners about SEO and you’ll get a version of the same complaint: it’s expensive, it’s slow, and nobody can tell you when it’ll actually pay off. That reputation is earned — a lot of SEO work is either unfocused (chasing rankings for keywords nobody’s searching with buying intent) or invisible (technical fixes with no reporting on what changed and why).

Neither of those is an SEO problem. They’re a process problem. Here’s the framework we run instead.

Days 1-30: Fix the Foundation

Nothing else works if the foundation is broken. Before targeting a single new keyword, the first 30 days go toward:

  • A technical audit. Site speed, mobile usability, indexing errors, broken links, and duplicate content — the unglamorous stuff that silently caps how well everything else can perform.
  • On-page optimization across your core pages. Titles, meta descriptions, header structure, and internal linking, aligned to what people are actually searching for, not what sounds good internally.
  • Keyword research grounded in intent, not volume. A keyword with 10,000 searches a month and zero buying intent is worth less than one with 200 searches and a visitor ready to become a lead.
  • Tracking set up correctly. If you can’t measure ranking movement and traffic quality from day one, you won’t be able to tell what’s working by day 90 either.

This is what “Basic SEO” covers on our points system — 8 points a month for keyword research and on-page optimization across 5 pages. It’s the floor everything else is built on.

Days 31-60: Build Authority and Content

With the foundation fixed, the next phase is about giving search engines — and readers — a reason to trust you more than the competition.

  • Content that targets real questions. Blog posts and resource pages built around what your actual buyers are searching for, not generic “10 tips” content that could belong to any company in your industry.
  • Technical depth for competitive terms. For keywords worth fighting for, this means a deeper technical audit, structured data, and a stronger internal linking strategy — what we bundle as “Advanced SEO” (13 points), for businesses with 10+ pages and real competition to out-rank.
  • Link building, done selectively. Not volume for its own sake — a handful of relevant, earned links does more than a hundred low-quality ones, and can actively hurt you if done wrong.

Days 61-90: Measure, Adjust, Compound

SEO results compound — they don’t switch on. By day 60 you should be seeing early ranking movement on lower-competition terms; by day 90, real traffic and lead-quality data to work from.

  • Report on what actually matters. Ranking position is a leading indicator. Organic traffic, and — most importantly — leads and conversions from organic traffic, are what you’re actually paying for.
  • Reallocate based on what’s working. If a content category is outperforming, double down. If a keyword cluster isn’t converting despite ranking well, that’s a signal to adjust targeting, not just declare SEO “not working.”
  • Keep the technical foundation clean. SEO isn’t a project with an end date — algorithm updates, site changes, and new competitors mean the first-30-days work needs periodic revisiting, not a one-time fix.

The Honest Version of the Timeline

Ninety days won’t take a new site to page one for a competitive term — nobody can honestly promise that. What 90 days should deliver is a fixed technical foundation, a content and keyword strategy grounded in real intent, and early, measurable movement you can point to and say “this is working, keep going” — or “this needs to change,” before a year and a much bigger budget are already spent.

What This Looks Like on Points

SEO work scales with your package. Starter includes Basic SEO (8 points); Growth adds Advanced SEO (13 points) on top, plus the social and paid media work that reinforces organic growth rather than competing with it for attention.
